Apple Is Nearly 40 Percent More Valuable Than City of Chicago

A new report from Market Watch has revealed that tech company Apple is worth nearly 40 percent more than the City of Chicago. According to data from Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, Apple Inc. currently has a market capitalization of about $803 billion--which is 38 percent larger than Chicago’s 2016 Gross Domestic Product of $581 billion in 2016. Apple’s market cap is also less than four percent away from surpassing Los Angeles, which had a real GDP of $832 billion last year and was the second biggest city in the country by this metric. Apple would need to grow in market cap by about 85 percent to top New York City, which checked in last year at $1.483 trillion.
