Keith Urban responded to a question about his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, during the couple’s separation over the summer.
Urban, 57, appeared on an episode of On Air with Ryan Seacrest on July 22. Since then, news broke that Urban and Kidman had been living separately since the beginning of summer. Kidman, 58, filed for divorce on Tuesday (September 30) after nearly two decades of marriage.
“Do people tell you your wife is in everything?” Ryan Seacrest asked the country star in July. “Like everything. Nicole Kidman is in everything.”
“She’s almost as busy as you, but not quite. Very close though,” Urban replied.
“I don’t know, bro,” Seacrest said. He went on to ask, “is that something with your life, her life and mapping it all out with production and touring, that’s a job, isn’t it?”
“It’s a job, yeah,” Urban agreed. “No, life is in session.”
“I think that people know that you do take great pride in — even though you’re busy making time to have time with each other, which is why you’ve been, what, together 19, 20 years? Maybe more?” Seacrest asked.
“Mhm. Yeah,” Urban confirmed.
The pair went on to reminisce on their American Idol days and more.
Kidman cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce this week. Unnamed sources told PEOPLE this week that Kidman “didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.” They added that she “feels very betrayed,” and “it’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.” Kidman is reportedly seeking to be the primary residential parent of the couple’s two teen daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Urban and Kidman met at a gala in 2005 in Los Angeles, California. They got married the following summer in Sydney, Australia. Neither one of them have publicly commented on the divorce as of publication time on Wednesday (October 1).
