Sam Smith & Normani Drop Slow Jam 'Dancing With A Stranger': Listen

Sam Smith and Normani are looking for love in all the wrong places on their new team-up "Dancing With a Stranger."

The music partners' long-awaited collaboration, which released at midnight (January 11), is a slow-burning dance record doused in heartbreak and regret. The duet depicts both artists struggling to set themselves free on the dancefloor as an attempt to get over their former flames.

"Look what you made me do, I'm with somebody new/ Ooh, baby, baby, I'm dancing with a stranger," Smith croons in the chorus. These frustrated feelings equally reverberate in Normani's verses, as she sings, "I wasn't even going out tonight/ But, boy, I need to get you off of my mind/ I know exactly what I have to do/ I don't wanna be alone tonight."

The song, co-written by Stargate and Jimmy Napes, came about by mere luck, as the "Love Lies" songbird happened to be in the studio next door to Smith's as he was composing the record while on his "Thrill of it All" tour in 2018.

"For me, it bottles everything I was feeling whilst juggling my personal life and touring," Smith said of the track in a statement. "It is also such a beautiful moment for me as I’m a huge, huge fan of Normani and everything she is. I’m so excited to watch her light shine. I hope everyone enjoys hearing this song as much as I do."
