Kanye West is backing ā€”Chance the Rapper endorsed ā€” Amara Enyia in the 2019 Chicago mayoral election.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the "Love It" rapper donated $73,540 to Enyia's campaign, which was the "exact amount in fines she faced from state election officials in connection with her brief 2015 campaign for mayor."

The Illinois State Board of Elections fined Enyia for not closing her 2015 campaign account after she withdrew from the race that year. However, with Ye's donation, the hefty fines were cleared.

Kanye's generous, but surprising, contribution to the Democrat mayoral candidate comes weeks after he sat down with President Trump in the Oval Office. It was during that bizarre meeting that he went on a 10-minute rant, which included him denouncing "liberal" ideas, doubling down on his past "abolish the 13th Amendment" statements, and praising his "hero" Trump. Less than two weeks prior, Kanye also went on a pro-Trump rant during his Saturday Night Live appearance. It was then that he called out Democrats for their so-called past indiscretions against black people and praised Trump for his efforts to "Make America Great Again." All of which, making Kanye's donation to Enyia's campaign all the more surprising.

One would have to assume it was Chance who reached out to his fellow Chicagoan and close friend, Kanye, to aid with Enyia's campaign. The Coloring Book rapper backed Enyia's run for mayor last week. ā€œI want to work with somebody who is about change, somebody who is about our community, somebody who is about equity, somebody who is about fairness,ā€ he said in a press conference last week. ā€œAnd the one person in my research of this wide-open race [whose] views align with me would obviously be candidate Amara Enyia.ā€ Following Chance's endorsement, Enyia additionally said: "This is not your typical flash-in-the-pan endorsement."
