Originally included in the Gin Blossoms 1989 debut album Dusted, the track was re-released on the group's 1992 album New Miserable Experience.

Lead guitarist Doug Hopkins wrote the song, and was fired shortly after the second album was recorded. Hey Jealousy became the first Billboard Top-40 single for the Gin Blossoms in 1993, reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 24 on the UK Singles Chart.
