Marco Gonzales, a former Rocky Mountain High School and current University of Gonzaga pitcher, was taken with the 19th overall pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in Thursday evening’s Major League Baseball Draft.

Gonzales is the first Fort Collins player to be taken in the first round of the draft. He was the winning pitcher in four consecutive championship Class 5A state playoff victories for Rocky Mountain before heading to Gonzazga, where he has starred on the mound and as a hitting first baseman.
