On Thursday morning, Larimer County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a report of a suspicious adult male armed with a handgun inside the Fort Fun Complex, located at 1513 East Mulberry in Fort Collins. The informant, an employee of Fort Fun, alerted other employees and immediately called 911 to report the incident.

According to a press release from Larimer County Sheriff's Office, a large group of middle school students from Kinard Middle School were at Fort Fun today in addition to the regular summer crowds, adding to concern of Fort Fun employees. The handgun had fallen out of the suspect's jacket onto the floor while retrieving tokens from a machine on the premises.

While deputies were en route to Fort Fun, the employees and manager at Fort Fun worked to evacuate groups of children and customers from the direct area where the male subject was.

Due to the seriousness of the call, several off-duty Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded in addition to on-duty personnel dispatched. Immediately, upon the arrival of the first deputy, the male subject was contacted and detained. Other deputies arrived and ensured that all innocent bystanders were moved to a safe location.

After further investigation, it was determined that the male subject, originally thought to be armed with a handgun, actually possessed a very realistic-appearing BB gun. The male was firmly warned of his poor decision to bring the BB gun to an amusement area. He was then escorted off the property and informed that ifhe returned, he would be arrested for trespassing.

"Larimer County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the Fort Fun employees and on-duty manager, who acted quickly to notify law enforcement and evacuate innocent bystanders," the press release stated. "They worked with their regular customers and the large group from Kinard Middle School in a very organized manner. Additionally, the chaperones from Kinard did an excellent job of following directions and moving away from the area where the male was located to keep their children out of harms way. No injuries occurred to any student, staff, or the subjects involved."

At this time, it is not known if Fort Fun has a ban on firearms on their premises.

A second subject who was with the suspicious male subject was contacted by deputies and found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The second male was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant.
